Timeslips Sessions
Getting Started with Timeslips – The Right Way!
Timeslips is the most popular and widely used time billing system in the world. Although legal professionals represent the largest number of installed users, this solution is used by a variety of service professionals. It is as adept at producing billing and productivity information for Public Relations firms as it is for Engineers or Architects. Each profession has its own style of billing and management reporting. This class focuses on setting up your database to bill effectively for your profession. Once the program settings are established, the focus is on entering time efficiently, producing bills in a timely manner and generating the primary management reports. Although this class is ideal as an introduction to the product, many experienced users find the answers to puzzling questions by learning the “right way” to use the program. Topics covered include:
- System setup and user preferences. (The right way!)
- Create timekeepers, clients, tasks, and expenses. (Learn to enter the address and client settings one time per client! Eliminate correcting rates and flat fees at billing time!)
- Enter time and expenses efficiently through the Timesheet view or Slip Data Entry. (We emphasize shortcuts!)
- Print pre-bills. (Show the information you want to review!)
- Edit pre-bills interactively or through the billing assistant.
- Generate bills with the correct information in batches, sorted by reviewer—and understand the approval process.
- Sort through the management reports to understand the five basic reports that all firms need to run their businesses effectively.
- Learn how to apply payments correctly and to use retainers and IOLTA accounts through Timeslips.
This class requires an understanding of the concepts covered in Getting Started with Timeslips – The Right Way! We encourage students to bring their own questions, report examples, and wish lists to this class. This class is for billing and accounting personnel and supervisors or managers who are exploring ways to get more productivity from this powerful billing system. The primary focus is on entering time and expenses and generating bills to produce consistent productivity information for the firm, timekeepers and clients. Secondary focus is on database maintenance to keep Timeslips working properly without errors. Finally, we discuss various management reports including samples from the students to understand what reports in Timeslips will produce the information they want.
- Set up custom fields for use in management reporting.
- Use rates and billing appropriately for clients and timekeepers.
- Set up the client/matter or client/project relationship to maximize reporting.
- Special billing arrangements including flat fee bills and progressive or interim billing.
- Understand filtering and sorting for viewing and reporting on Timeslips information.
- Appropriate setup of the clients/projects to produce a variety of invoice styles through Timeslips.
- Security setup to protect Timeslips data in the workplace.
Timeslips Management Reporting – The Next Level!
One of the helpful features of the Timeslips billing system is that it has a wide variety of options for reporting. There is good flexibililty in the standard reports that come built into the program. Then, there is a Report Designer program that is included with the software that can be used to create custom reports. Finally, it is also possible to export data to be used in other programs, or to access the Timeslips database with Crystal Report writer (a third-party product used for database reporting). This class focuses on the reporting capabilities and options for Timeslips. During the class you will build a custom report, design a specialized invoice, and learn how to maximize your use of the built-in reports in Timeslips or export the data into Excel for additional calculations. This class is for the experienced Timeslips user or manager who has very specific reporting needs.
- Investigate Timeslips built-in reports
- Create custom reports using the Report Designer for Timekeeper Realization.
- Design of specialized invoices.
- Discus productivity standards for the service professional, and quantitative ways to evaluate employee performance for incentive-based compensation.
Timeslips TAL Pro Accounting Link With QuickBooks Pro
More than 65% of Timeslips users indicate that they also use QuickBooks for managing their general ledgers and for issuing financial reports. Is it possible to exchange data between the two applications effectively? This class teaches the user how to set up the link correctly and master the tricks for successful linking. An understanding of Timeslips billing and Quickbooks accounting is necessary to understand the concepts of linking the two programs successfully. Since the TAL Pro link is an add-on product for Timeslips and requires owning a current version of both programs, consider taking this class to evaluate the benefits of the TAL Pro Accounting Link.
- Install and configure the link correctly.
- Export the client information from one program to the other effectively.
- Enter payable data and post to Timeslips expenses.
- Review the postings to make certain all client expenses have been billed back correctly.
- Enter payments one time and post to AR correctly.
